GVSU Pew Libruary
Opening fall of 2103, the Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons will be the signature building on the Allendale campus. Learning will continue beyond the classroom and students will work in teams or alone, with or without the help of expert consultants. The Pew Library will have rooms full of buzz and wired with the latest technologies, and rooms with sofas, providing a whisper quiet corner by a fireplace. Comfortable furniture and well-equipped enclaves will nurture group projects and peer-to-peer interaction, because that's how studens learn today, and that's how they are likely to work after they graduate-collaboratively as part of a team.
The technology and learning design of the new library will serve as an incubator for 21st century skills, preparing students to complete globally in the information age. The new library will provide approximately 1,500 seats for student study, 30 group study rooms, and offices and support areas for faculity and staff. There will be room for 150,000 books on open shelves and 600,000 books in an automated storea/retrieval system.
The facility will be bult to the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Platinium specifications, the highest possible standards in that sustainability rating system.
