Grand Rapids Public Schools: Southwest Middle High School

New Construction

Grand Rapids Public Schools selected Town & Country Group to install electrical and technology services for the new construction Southwest Middle High School.

The facility serves as an extension of the district’s English/Spanish immersion program, creating Southwest Community Campus. Students currently enrolled at Southwest Elementary – of which 80% are bilingual – can continue the dual-immersion program throughout middle and high school instead of moving outside the district.

The 75,000-square-foot, four-story building features classrooms, offices, a gymnasium, locker rooms, a cafeteria and a kitchen. The open-concept “Knowledge Center,” located on the third floor, includes diverse collaboration spaces, books and presentation areas.

Town & Country Group provided the electrical assemblies, wiring and power throughout the facility, including the lighting controls, technology infrastructure, CCTV and fire alarm systems. We also installed a 2000kw generator.

Our technology experts ran data cable throughout the building. Each classroom features two sound systems: one for the schoolwide PA system and another for the classroom’s individual AV system. The AV system is connected to specialized document cameras, short-throw projectors, with a unique wall controller. We installed wireless analog clocks in corridors and classrooms. Network cabling was also installed for the security cameras. Multiple touch-screen TVs were installed throughout the building. Cameras were installed along with the TVs in the conference rooms to allow for remote conferencing.

We also provided a touch screen-controlled audio and video projection system in the gymnasium and a dual-screen audio and video projection system in the cafeteria. Both systems have automated screen up/down controls, automated projector controls, wireless mic systems and Bluetooth audio inputs.
